Occupational Health and Safety Provisions at the Workplace in Georgia

Health and Safety Provisions at the Workplace in Georgia: Within the framework of an Association Agreement that Georgia officially signed with the European Union in 2014, Occupational Health and Safety regulations become mandatory for all types of enterprises. From September 1, 2019, the Organic Law of Georgia on Labor Safety has been extended to all areas of economic activity, which means that each employer, having more than 10 employees, is obliged to have one or more certified occupational safety specialists and Health and Safety Management System. Not meeting the requirements of the above-mentioned regulations may result in various sanctions, including fines and penalties. Starting from September 2019, the Labour Conditions Inspection is authorised to inspect any workplace subject to inspection without advance notice, to conduct the inspection, search and check of the workplace, at any time of day. 

According to the same law, the employer is obliged to ensure safety in the workplace. With this in mind, it should take preventive measures, carry out arrangement and management of occupational safety, ensure workers’ involvement in occupational safety-related issues, and provide first aid medical assistance, fire safety and evacuation, if needed, in the workplace.
